Isn’t water wonderful? When your mouth is dry, nothing else satisfies like a cold glass of pure water. How about when you feel grimy and greasy? It’s wonderful to wash it all off in the shower, isn’t it? Even watching and hearing water has an effect—it soothes us and brings us a feeling of peace and tranquility. Water truly supports and enhances life.
Since heavenly water is of higher quality then earthly water, what kind of effects do you think the heavenly water will bring us?
Jesus answered, “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.” John 4:13-14 NIV
Have you ever jumped into cool, clear, water, on a hot day? You always come up laughing and letting out a little yell, don’t you? It feels wonderful to instantly cool down and rinse off the grime of the day. Imagine water pouring from GOD’s throne and forming a river—its’ the clearest blue water you have ever seen—clear as crystal. It sounds bubbly as it calmly flows by—misting a sweet smell of purity. Kneeling down, you cup your hands in the river and take a long, deep, draught–the taste and the feel of the water beckons you. You take a few steps back and plunge into the river of life. The river is cool–it tickles your skin as you descend. You stop descending and hover mid-stream, you can feel the divine water cleansing your spirit—it’s living water, nourishing your soul. Your joy soars as you’re rinsed of the hurts and corrosion of earthly life–this water has washed off the grime of a lifetime. You swim upwards and break the surface with your fist raised. What kind of yell will you let out this time? The Bible says in Revelation 22:1-2;
Then the angel showed me the river of the water of life, as clear as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb 2 down the middle of the great street of the city. On each side of the river stood the tree of life, bearing twelve crops of fruit, yielding its fruit every month. And the leaves of the tree are for the healing of the nations. Revelation 22:1-2 NIV
Just as earthly water supports earthly trees, these verses in Revelations describe heavenly water supporting heavenly trees and the Tree of Life. Earthly water is wonderful, but its effects are temporary and incomplete. The effects of the heavenly water are permanent. Why? The Lamb is life. The Lamb is healing. The Lamb is what satisfies.
When we pursue the things of this world we will thirst again–there is an alternative–Jesus Christ, The Lamb of God who takes away the sins or the world. HE wants to spend eternity with you. He is preparing a place for you. He loves you and wants to heal you. He thought of you when He put His grand plan in motion. Which type of water will you choose?
