Do you remember how simple things would fill you with wonder when you were a child? Remember what Christmas was like? Do you remember the first time you saw snow, the ocean, a high mountain, a beautiful landscape or myriads of stars on a particularly dark night? Is it the same for you today? When was the last time you were awestruck with wonder?
As we age, our sense of wonder about the creation can easily diminish–it’s easy to succumb to an attitude of, I’ve been there and done that. Perhaps pain, or the frustration of mankind’s corruption has tainted your dreams and passion for the future.
I have a large book on my bookshelf called; A Field Guide to the Cosmos. Inside, there’s beautiful high-resolution images of galaxies and stars taken by the Hubble telescope.
I gaze in wonder every time I look at it. I’m in awe, of the vastness and beauty of what GOD has created. When I’m feeling down and the cares of this world are taking a toll on me, I can flip through the pages of that book and have a child-like wonder at GOD and His creation.
I’m blown away by the fact that GOD sent His only Son Jesus Christ to die for me so I can spend eternity with Him.
Also, the images in the book inspire me to think about what GOD has prepared for me.
In the Bible, every time someone visited Heaven they fell down in wonder. In other words, the first time you see Heaven—your legs will give out.
When Jesus calls us home, whether it’s death or rapture, you have jumped the last hurdle—you’ve broke the ribbon at the finish line. Through Jesus Christ; death is –conquered, pain–gone, all fear–squashed, all doubt–removed, every struggle– overcome, every wound–healed. You’ve taken possession of the land. Your debt paid. The veil removed –the glory to Jesus.
Jesus said in Revelations 21:5; the old has passed away behold the new has come!
Let me encourage you, by faith, lift your eyes up and take possession of joy and wonder.
The Bible tells us in Hebrews 11:8-11
By faith Abraham, when called to go to a place he would later receive as his inheritance, obeyed and went, even though he did not know where he was going. 9 By faith he made his home in the promised land like a stranger in a foreign country; he lived in tents, as did Isaac and Jacob, who were heirs with him of the same promise. 10 For he was looking forward to the city with foundations, whose architect and builder is God.
Abraham obeyed when GOD called him. Why? He was looking up and had joy and wonder about Eternity.
