Have you ever received an inheritance? Are you looking forward to one?

Some people know about their inheritances ahead of time. A father might show his son a classic automobile and promise it as an inheritance. A mother might show her daughter some precious jewels and explain to her how the family has passed them down through the generations. Both the daughter and son can anticipate the day of their inheritance with joy.

In another scenario, an inheritance is a complete surprise. The inheritor had no idea another person was going to leave them something so wonderful. Imagine a relative or friend leaving you something very special in their will–when you receive it, you would realize how much they loved you and how highly they thought of you.

Maybe you’re in a different boat. You’ve never inherited anything; you have no hope of inheriting anything and you feel like you have nothing to pass on to your family. Let me encourage you, no matter your earthly inheriting status, you can be excited today! Those in Jesus Christ have the greatest inheritance in the history of inheriting. Jesus tells us in Revelation,

“Those who are victorious will inherit all this, and I will be their God and they will be my children.” Revelation 21:7 NIV

Believers have the benefit of the first two examples–we can know about our inheritance now, and, we will still be surprised with great joy on the day we take possession of our Fathers land. Jesus said in Luke 12:32;

“Do not be afraid, little flock, for your Father has been pleased to give you the kingdom. NIV

Oh, how deep our heavenly Fathers love is. He’s planned ahead and put your name on the deed to the kingdom. Be grateful with great joy my friend! Walk with your eyes up and a pep in your step!

 Reflection

Here is a partial list of your inheritance. Take a few days and study these.

From Revelation chapters 21 and 22, you are inheriting;

  1. Eternal life
  2. A family
  3. A city—The New Jerusalem
  4. New Heavens
  5. New Earth
  6. A Savior
  7. A glorified body
  8. The water of life
  9. The tree of life
  10. A white robe
  11. A place at GOD’s table

Ask yourself;

Why does GOD give me all of this?

What is my response to GOD’s generosity?

How can I re-arrange my priorities?

Why do I worry so much in light of eternity?
