During Jesus’ sermon on the mount, He said; “Blessed are the pure in heart for they shall see GOD.” As I reflect on my life, it’s very easy to recognize that I don’t have a pure heart. I see a lot of ugliness in there. What hope do I have then?
In the Old Testament, David prayed a prayer where he asked GOD to create in him a pure heart (Psalm 51). In other words, David recognized the fact that he didn’t have a pure heart either. But He asked GOD for it.
We cannot earn a pure heart by a lifetime of “good” deeds. Many people claim they are good or pure because they haven’t broken any “major” man-made rules. But this is a grave mistake because we judge ourselves by our own set of rules when we make this claim.
The Bible says there is none righteous, no, not one (Romans 3). Every person ever born has been weighed by GOD’s standard and found wanting. GOD, in His great love provided a solution—His son Jesus Christ.
Perhaps you see yourself in a different position. You fully recognize the things you’ve done and you have condemned yourself. You feel like you’re not redeemable and there is no way Jesus could love and accept a person like you. Jesus said in John 5:24;
“Very truly I tell you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be judged but has crossed over from death to life.”
The Bible tells us that when we make the choice to turn our heart and lives over to Jesus Christ and ask Him into our heart, He cleanses our soul from sin and makes us pure by His blood which He shed on the cross. This gift Jesus gives to us is what qualifies us to spend eternity with Him and to see Him one day.
From that point forward, GOD begins transforming our hearts and our characters into Christ-likeness.
He does all of this because He loves us and wants to spend eternity with us. This is why He created us—He wants to be with us forever. GOD is demonstrating His love and goodness towards us.
The ultimate gift GOD has given us is an eternity with Him. To be with GOD—to know Him. To see Him as He is and worship Him in all of our activities. To be in paradise with Him where all fears and doubts are removed unto a glorious relationship.
Jesus even prayed it would be so. “Father, I want those you have given me to be with me where I am. To see my glory. The glory you have given me before the foundation of the world.”
As we walk with Him in this life, were going to battle our sinful nature and sometimes the sinful nature will win. We will mess up and we will and fail. But praise Jesus, His blood has purified us once and for all.
If you’re going through a tough time today—if you’re doubting GOD’s goodness or His provision in your life. Take a moment and forget where you are. Now, imagine where you’re going. One day, the veil will be removed and you will meet the one who chose you. You will see the lover of your soul who died and rose again for you. The best day of your life will be when you take possession of your greatest blessing—Jesus Christ.
Blessed are the pure in heart for they will see GOD—physically and spiritually.
