In the Christian culture, one of the fears of Heaven is not knowing what our final state will be. Let me encourage and excite you today with some Biblical evidence.
God created the first man and woman, Adam and Eve, as mature adults with no defects or decay evident. This was GOD’s intent and design for human beings—to be mature. After Adam and Eve, there was birth and children but there was still a ‘final state’ of maturity. Spiritually speaking, as Christians, it’s necessary for us to enter a process and reach a final state of maturity, or, as is often said, “grow up” in Christ. Even the human side of Jesus Christ had a growing up unto maturity process.
And Jesus grew in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and man. Luke 2:52 NIV
After a certain point in our lives, we don’t mature anymore, we show wear and tear and begin the process of going back to the dust–we’re decaying unto death.
We can observe and understand that we are designed to become mature adults–this will be our appearance for all eternity. GOD will give all Saints a new glorified body that will look like the initial intended creation of a man and a woman. A mature adult with no defect, damage or decay.
Some Bible scholars have pointed out that since Jesus was a mature, thirty-three-year-old adult, when He ascended to Heaven, this will also be our age for all eternity. We know that everyone ages differently and shows wear and tear in different ways. So, trying to narrow down a specific number which corresponds to how that person would have looked on Earth at thirty-three, might leave some people less fortunate in their appearance:) Having an “age” won’t even be necessary anymore because we all will receive glorified bodies at the same time. But, the concept of looking like a mature adult who is approximately thirty-three lines up with the small of amount of biblical evidence we have on what age we will appear for all eternity. Remember when Jesus appeared to the disciples (and others) after his resurrection? He was recognizable based on his previous appearance—a mature adult.
Reflection
Be encouraged today my friend. As you experience the pain, decay, and toil of aging, a complete reversal is edging ever closer. A mature, glorified body like our risen Lord’s will be your final cut and polish as a believer in Jesus Christ.
Therefore, we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. 2 Corinthians 4:16 NIV
…being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus. Philippians 1:6
